The “Dancing With the Stars” couples set the bar high in Week 1 and continued that momentum in Week 2. The teams hit the ballroom Monday night to perform various styles and show off their chops ahead of the first elimination.
The show started with Team Blades of Glory (Artem Chigvintsev and Nancy Kerrigan) performing a cha cha. Behind the scenes viewers learned that the olympic ice skater was struggling with her confidence. While she had a hard time taking compliments, “DWTS” fans and judges alike seem impressed with her work.
Season 24, Week 2 ended with Team Lady and the Gramp (Lindsay Arnold and David Ross) who brought the funk. They performed a very different, but equally impressive cha cha from Artem and Nancy’s. The judges weren’t 100 percent behind their kitschy routine, but they’re mirror ball contenders none the less.
After each team got the chance to show off their skills, the “DWTS” cast gathered for the first elimination. Team Cuchi Cuchi (Keo Motsepe and Charo) and Team Mango Tango (Witney Carson and Chris Kattan) were on the chopping block. Due to their low combined overall judges scores and viewer votes, Witney and Chris danced their last dance. They were eliminated.
How did your favorite “DWTS” duos score in platinum week? Find out:
Team Blades of Glory
Artem and Nancy stepped out in the ballroom first, performing a cha cha. Their performance space struggles were a non-issue on the floor, but it was far from perfect. The pair encountered wardrobe malfunctions and a few slight missteps.
Still, they’ve got chops. Artem and Nancy received a 28 out of 40 in Week 2 on “DWTS.”
Team Pretty Xxpensive
Gleb Savchenko and Erika Jayne struggled to impress judges with their Week 1 routine. Len Goodman called it “raunchy,” which left them determined to bring something different in Week 2. They performed a sensual Foxtrot and even brought Erika’s matte Lamborghini — which she promised to Gleb — into the ballroom. Their impressive routine garnered a 28 out of 40 from the judges.
Erika was quiet after judging, but she didn’t seem pleased. Viewers have high hopes for these two. We’ll have to wait until Vegas Week to see what else they’ve got up their sleeves.
Team Cuchi Cuchi
Keo and Charo tapped into her roots, performing a Paso Doble in Week 2. They brought the intensity and flare to the ballroom, but was it enough? The judges gave them a 26 out of 40, which didn’t sit well with Charo.
She had words for Bruno Tonioli after the judging, telling him his “English sucks!” The pair are certainly not the worst “DWTS” Season 24 team, but they’ve got work to do if they want to make it past Week 3.
Team Baby Got Bach
Peta Murgatroyd and Nick Viall had a lot to prove in Week 2. Their “DWTS” Season 24 premiere routine was not what they hoped it would be, so they stepped it up. Team Baby Got Bach hit the ballroom with a Foxtrot routine they hoped would impress.
They fell just short of where they hoped to be, scoring 25 out of 40 points. After the show “The Bachelor” star revealed his new nickname, Nervous Nick. He promised fans and Peta that he would try to shake it in Week 3.
Vanessa Grimaldi, Chad Johnson and a whole host of “Bachelor” cast offs were in the audience cheering him on. Even some of his Season 21 exes were there — awkward!
Team Maksimum Heat
Ahead of Week 2 “DWTS” viewers learned Maksim Chmerkovskiy was out of the competition with an injury. Behind the scenes footage showed him suffering the injury while practicing his jive with Heather. “DWTS” troupe member Alan Bersten stepped in for the dance.

The pair came out with force, showing their fast footwork. Heather also had the opportunity to tap into her roots as a hip hop dancer, which Len didn't like. Their routine received a 30 out of 40.
Team Denim And Diamonds
Sharna Burgess and Bonner Bolton tapped into his country roots and their exceptional chemistry once more in Week 2. They danced a Viennese Waltz that was sexy and romantic. Team Denim and Diamonds received a 29 out of 40 overall score, but it was the fire between them that judges couldn’t help but comment on.
Julianne Hough added fuel to romance rumors, telling the “DWTS” duo she felt she was “watching something unfolding.” Will they be the next couple to find love on the ABC show?
Team Golden Giggles
Sasha Farber and Simone Biles encountered some of the same struggles Laurie Hernandez had during her time on “DWTS.” Simone, although older than her fellow gymnast, has a hard time tapping into her sexy side. She dug deep and hit the “DWTS” ballroom with Sasha to perform an exceptional Cha Cha — even working a flip into the routine.
The pair set the bar high in Week 1 and couldn’t quite meet the judges high expectations in Week 2. They received a 29 out of 40 for their Cha Cha and will be bringing the heat in Week 3 without a doubt.
Team Mango Tango
Witney and Chris had a lot of work to do during the week if they hoped to stay in the “DWTS” competition. They danced their butts off, but the “Saturday Night Live” alumnus’ past injuries limited his movement. He worked through it and they performed an improved routine in Week 2.

Their 22 out of 40 wasn’t enough to save them. The pair got eliminated despite the judges’ positive reviews. Chris said his time on “DWTS” was “amazing” and seemed genuinely sad to be leaving.
Val Chmerkovskiy and Normani Kordei proved they had the talent in Week 1, but jet lag provided a new hurdle in Week 2. The “DWTS” partners returned home from Japan hours before the show. Fans were nervous it would impact their performance and boy were they wrong!

Val and Normani busted out an amazing cha cha. They took the Week 1 critiques to heart, working on their partnering. The judges loved it, giving them a 32 out of 40. Their secret? Snake venom, according to Val.
Team Shad Squad
Emma Slater and Rashad Jennings were one of the teams to beat in Week 1. After Week 2 the same still rings true. The pair performed a gorgeous Viennese Waltz, tapping into Rashad’s past pain.
The judges gave Emma and Rashad a 32 out of 40, calling it “hot.” Even Len couldn’t hide his joy, telling Team Shad Squad, “I liked it.”
Team Dancing Fools
Kym Herjavec and Mr. T were in the bottom in Week 1, which had them pushing for improvement in Week 2. Mr. T took the judges critiques to heart, telling fans, “I’m a fighter.” He and Kym performed a Paso Doble that was better than their Week 1 routine, but still needed work.
Surprisingly, they weren’t in the bottom this week. Mr. T said the judges scoring was fair, but we know he’ll be hard at work this week to impress in Week 3.
Team Lady And The Gramp
Lindsay Arnold and David Ross shocked “DWTS” viewers in Week 1, performing a high energy routine to “Go Cubs Go.” They kept the fun alive in Week 2 with their Cha Cha routine, but the judges found issues. They nit picked David’s foot work and style.
Lindsay and David scored a 27 out of 40 and will continue in the competition. What will they bring in Week 3?
Tune in to Vegas Week on “DWTS” next Monday at 8 p.m. EDT on ABC.
