5 Things To Know About How David O. Russell Made 'American Hustle'

Set in the late 1970s, the music in "American Hustle" is fantastic – fun, surprising, emblematic of the era and avoiding cliché. Russell was very involved in the song selection (assisted by music supervisor Susan Jacobs) with music by Duke Ellington, Paul McCartney and Led Zeppelin all orchestrating memorable moments in the film. Russell wrote much of the music in at the script level – Sydney and Irving sing the words to "I've Got Your Number" (a Tony Bennett classic re-recorded by Jack Jones especially for "American Hustle") because that's the song Russell had in his head when writing their romance.
