Ohmer is a 5-foot-10 senior at Scott High School in Taylor Mill. This past week at the KHSAA state tournament he scored 41 points and 17 rebounds in a first-round win over Harlan County. He then had 32 points and 10 rebounds in a quarterfinal win over Perry County Central, then 33 points, eight rebounds and five assists in the semifinals against Bowling Green.

In three games Ohmer made 15 of 30 three-pointers and 21 of 24 free throws, according to the KHSAA.

"(Western Kentucky coach Rick Stansbury) caught him in the tunnel Saturday night and got a chance to talk to him and had a chance to talk to his family Sunday. I believe they spoke again last night and that’s what (Ohmer) decided to do," SHS coach Steve Fromeyer said. “I’m thrilled for him. It’s something that he has worked really hard for. He’s a great kid.

"Western is getting a great kid, and more than anything else, that’s one thing that he brings. Someone that’s gonna be a good teammate and a good friend and an incredible basketball player.”

Ohmer averaged 27.6 points per game and shot 50 percent from the field. He also averaged 8.6 rebounds per contest. The Eagles finished their season 23-13.

The Cincinnati Enquirer named Ohmer the norther Kentucky player of the year and the Kentucky Association of Basketball Coaches named him the 10th Region player of the year.

“(Ohmer) is just a natural scorer," Fromeyer said. "He’s a winner more than anything else. It doesn’t matter – he can score one point and win and be exuberant. He can score 50 points and lose and just be as miserable as anything."

Ohmer had previously committed to the University of the Cumberlands. He'll join fellow newcomers Mitchell Robinson, Josh Anderson, Taveion Hollingsworth, Lamonte Beardern, Moustapha Diagne, Robinson Idehen and Miles Weber on the 2017-18 roster.
